| Description: | Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. |
| Duties: | Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, , or grinders. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations |
| Qualifications: | The machinist should have a high school diploma or equivalent GED. The machinist should have completed 3-5 years experience, or a combination of vocational school training and at least 1 year of experience. The machinist must have knowledge of machine tools, math, algebra, geometry, statistics and their applications. |
